Critics' Take
The Old Globe's karaoke-infused "Much Ado" wins over critics with its fun, accessible approach. The musical reimagining in a beach-resort setting makes Shakespeare feel fresh and joyful, though some question the stylistic disconnect.

“The Old Globe's latest production of ‘Much Ado,’ which opened Saturday night on the company's outdoor festival stage in San Diego's Balboa Park, is the most musical, contemporary and entertaining staging of the play that I can remember.”

“If a play like Much Ado represents Bill Shakespeare’s sense of humor, he would be proud of this production with its upbeat modern references and digs.”
