A solo performance piece drawn from Jill Morley’s years as a top-ranked go-go dancer in 1990s New Jersey. True Confessions is a collage of monologues, characters, music, dance, and imagery drawn from Jill Morley’s transformation from tomboy to top-ranked bikini dancer in the 1990s. Set largely in the go-go bars off the Jersey Turnpike, the piece features characters based on real dancers she met, along with her gay male roommate, who encouraged her to embrace her femininity, and a bouncer who taught her how to “hump air.” Throughout, Morley considers how the work affects her personal life and weighs the rewards and dangers of the go-go business.
