Applause

“A great story can survive a merely good score when the actresses behave badly in fabulous clothes, and Applause has both in generous supply.”

“The songs themselves are largely mediocre, and the company deserves better than the tinny, pre-recorded soundtrack — the only element that circumvents this almost heroic enterprise.”

“Applause (like Two Gentlemen of Verona and Raisin) has achieved only obscurity, making the Group Rep staging one that Broadway buffs will want to catch if only to see for themselves why it is almost never revived.”
