Critics' Take
Cramer's absurdist naval musical parody earns mixed reviews for its surreal ambition and timely satire, but critics find the execution uneven, with clever concepts undermined by simplistic songs and a show that feels more like a undergraduate devised piece than a polished work.

“‘No Singing in the Navy’ turns into something far more surreal, a satirical musical that’s really a scattershot revue that’s really a contemplation in serviceable tunes and idiosyncratic lyrics of identity, unrequited love, dementia, war and death.” By Jonathan Mandell, Mar 29
“No Singing in the Navy struggles to sustain the same level of engagement.” By Gregory Bernard, Apr 1
“At the same time, their dependence on repetition and intentional naïveté starts to wear thin.” By Sara Holdren, Mar 29
“Like any night out with theater kids, No Singing in the Navy includes moments of enchantment as well as indulgent rough patches.” By Thom Geier, Mar 29
