Critics' Take
Crystal charms with expert joke delivery in this nostalgic but uneven musical adaptation of his 1992 film. Critics praise the star's comedic skills and Borscht Belt humor, but fault the dated material and thin story.

“The end result is certainly the funniest show on Broadway in years, if not the most likable.”

“Crystal's performance is the show's main draw, and he delivers with the easy authority of a seasoned entertainer who knows how to work a room.”

“What is surprising, given that no one really asked for this, and considering the general soullessness of such reboots, is how perfectly charming and entertaining the work is.”

“And if you’re in search of hilarity, retro good times and Crystal’s now-precious signature smoothie of affirmation, timing and stark comedic honesty, ‘Mr. Saturday Night’ is your show.”
